Experience the thrills of whitewater on the world-renowned New River. During the peak months of April through October, visitors to the national park are likely to see and hear whitewater rafters and kayakers taking on the river below. The park also offers over 1,400 established rock climbs and numerous hiking trails. "Bridge Day" is a yearly festival each October when hundreds of base jumpers jump off The US 19 bridge 876 ft. above the gorge floor.



Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine

Follow an experienced miner 1,500 ft. below the surface and learn about the history of coal mining from past to present. When the tour is over, visitors can visit a reconstructed coal camp, or shop at the gift shop.



Whipple Company Store and Museum

Visit one of West Virginia's few preserved company stores. Tours of the store are available from April through October. A museum is also located on site which highlights the coal heritage of Fayette County. Close to the Paint Creek Scenic Trail, this attraction is a must-see for those interested in the area's coal history.
