Coal Heritage
GeoTrail
Kickoff Event

May 1 - 2
2010
Sat. and Sun.

On the weekend of May 1 - 2, the National Coal Heritage Area will unveil the Coal Heritage GeoTrail during a special kickoff event. The Coal Heritage GeoTrail will consist of fifteen caches within the National Coal Heritage Area in southern West Virginia and along three scenic byways: the Coal Heritage Trail, the Paint Creek Scenic Trail, and the Midland Trail. Each cache will be located at a point of natural or historic significance, and the GeoTrail will enlighten geocachers on lesser-known facets of coal country. All geocachers who complete the entire Coal Heritage GeoTrail will be eligible to receive a commemorative coin.

On Saturday morning (May 1st), the National Coal Heritage Area will unveil the coordinates for all of the caches. We will award grand prizes to the first three teams/persons to find all of the caches, and we will raffle smaller prizes throughout the event. This event will be a great time to meet up with other geocachers from around the region. We will have great food available, fun games for the whole family, and other special events during the weekend.

This event will be held at the Maxwell Hill Community Center in Beckley. We will update this web site often with more details as they become available, so stay tuned. Please RSVP for this event by filling out the form below (all fields are optional). This will help us plan a better event.
