The Coal Heritage GeoTrail is a geocaching trail consisting of sixteen caches within the National Coal Heritage Area in southern West Virginia. The caches are located at sites of historic, cultural, or natural significance that highlight unique aspects of southern West Virginia history. Along the GeoTrail, geocachers will travel three scenic byways: the Coal Heritage Trail, the Paint Creek Scenic Trail, and the Midland Trail. The National Coal Heritage Area has also partnered with the National Park Service to place two caches within New River Gorge National River. In each cache, geocachers find clues that help them complete a puzzle in the official Coal Heritage GeoTrail brochure. Geocachers who complete the entire GeoTrail and solve the puzzle will receive a commemorative Coal Heritage GeoTrail patch!
