Farms such as these are clustered at Lively and Long Branch in a wide valley adjacent to Paint Creek. Settlement of this area predates the 1870’s when the railroad pushed its way through the area. This particular farmhouse sits on some of the few tillable acres which have been developed for agricultural use along Paint Creek.

The structure is similar to many other farmhouses in the area. The original side gable, symmetrical construction of this vernacular style house has been modified with the additions of porches and outbuildings. Additions to the rear of the house have been created by enclosing of summer kitchens and storage areas. In the 1870’s, with the construction of the railroad just feet away from this farmhouses’ rear door, markets were opened up for the export of farm products from the Paint Creek area.
