Plum Orchard Lake was completed in 1962 and opened to fishing in 1963. It lies within the 2,953-acre Plum Orchard Lake Public Hunting and Fishing Area located 5 miles north of Pax in Fayette County. The lake is managed by West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and recreational facilities operate from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Two campgrounds provide 25 rustic combination trailer and tent camping sites which are available nearly year-round. Boat rental and a concrete boat ramp are also available at the lake. Plum Orchard Lake provides an excellent warm water fishery for largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and channel catfish. The lake’s exceptional fishing opportunities have merited it national recognition by being featured in several fish and game publications. |
